Nursery – Acorn
Welcome to Nursery - Acorn Class
My name is Miss Wood and I am the teacher in Acorn Class (Foundation 1). I am assisted throughout the day by Miss Crewe and Miss Eblowska. Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us before or after a session.
There are currently two classes in Foundation 1. A morning class that begins at 8.45-11.45 and an afternoon class that begins at 12.30-3.30.
A big welcome to the children that have joined us this September! I also want to welcome back the children that have returned to us after the Summer Holidays. I hope that you had a restful break.
Topic Map and Timetable
As we are using ‘In the Moment Planning’ we do not follow a specific topic each term, instead we will be following children’s interests and focussing on particular skills for development. I have attached a copy of the skills that we will be developing this term.
Please view our class timetable, this will show you how your child’s day will be structured at school.
Once every long term your child will be a focus child for the week. We will be observing them closely while they play to find out about their interests and how they are progressing. We send a sheet home for parents/carers to fill in as we value the knowledge and understanding you have of your child. This helps us to plan for your child’s future learning and development. We also ask that you send in recent photographs of your child enjoying activities outside of school.
Don’t forget to fill out a WOW slip when your child has a WOW moment. I love to hear about these and the children love to share them with their friends!
Each Friday, I send home a learning letter which tells you about what we have done in the week and how you can help your child at home.
At this stage, I am sending story books home for you to share with your child. These will get changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday but if you would like a new book more regularly, please feel free to come and change it in the classroom. If I could just ask you to sign it out in the reading folder.
It would be really beneficial if you could find a quiet time to share the book without any distractions. We also encourage the children to hold the book and turn the pages themselves. You could discuss with your child what is happening in the pictures or ask them questions about what might happen next.
If you feel that you would like help on supporting your child with their learning, please come and see me and I would be more than happy to help you.
We are very lucky to be taught PE by Mr Nobes every Wednesday. At this stage, the children will only remove their shoes, socks and jumpers. However, later on in the year, I would like for the children to begin changing to get them ready for starting reception. I will let you know about this in due course.
Just to remind you that I do not teach the class on a Wednesday morning as this is my PPA time. However, I am always in school if you wish to speak to me. Mr Rose will teach on this morning.
I will regularly update the website with pictures of what we have been doing so please keep checking our page!
I look forward to working with you this year.
