Celebrating World Book Day 5th March

On Thursday 5th March 2020, along with children in more than 100 different countries around the world, we celebrated the 23rd annual World Book Day!

Books are a key part of everyone’s education. However, with the Internet becoming an increasingly common learning resource, books risk being marginalised. At Fir Tree Primary School we still recognise the importance of books in helping children to learn, develop, and discover new worlds. World Book Day is an amazing opportunity for us to help our children understand what reading has to offer and to celebrate characters and stories. So many children and staff dressed up for the day.

The children took part in lots of activities. They all went on a treasure hunt around the school applying their knowledge of books, characters and settings. They also had to guess which teacher was reading one of our new school books.

We also had our annual class competition of book doors too!

Developing a passion for reading opens up a world of endless possibilities to our children. Every different book is unique and there are books to suit and challenge everyone. Whether a three-year-old wants to know more about their favourite dinosaur or an 11-year-old wants to get lost in a story of adventure, there is always a book that is perfect for them.

Our celebrations promote the underlying message that reading is not only important for learning, but is also a hugely enriching hobby. Helping pupils become lifelong learners is a key value of Fir Tree Primary, we hope that our World Book Day celebrations along with our drive on Reading continues to encourage all our pupils to catch on to the reading bug.
