The Newbury Academy Trust Primary Schools Local Governing Body

The Newbury Academy Trust Primary Schools Local Governing Body is a committee of the Newbury Academy Trust Board of Trustees.

Whilst the Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for the quality of education in the Newbury Academy Trust and for ensuring the Trust achieves its targets, it delegates some responsibilities to the Primary Schools LGB. The LGB has two strategic functions delegated to it:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of Fir Tree and Speenhamland Primary Schools.
  • Holding the Associate Headteachers to account for the educational performance of the schools and its pupils.

The Trusts ‘Scheme of Delegation’ sets out the framework under which the Trust is governed and managed to ensure it meets its statutory obligations. It details the working relationship between the Members, Trustees, Local Governing Bodies (LGB’s) and the Senior Leadership Team.

The Primary Schools LGB is made up of elected and appointed local governors. It includes two elected parent governors; one from Fir Tree and one from Speenhamland schools, an elected member of staff from each school, and community governors appointed by the Trustees. The Trustees appoint the LGB Chair.

The LGB meets four times a year to a timetable set by the Trustees.

If you are interested in becoming a Newbury Academy Trust governor please email the NAT Chair of Trustees, Sheila Loy, at office@newburyacademytrust.org.
