Topic Map and Timetable
We use ‘In the Moment Planning’ in our Nursery Class and follow the children’s interests, focusing on particular skills for development. We place minimal resources out at the start of the day, allowing the children to independently choose what they would like to use and get busy with throughout the day. Please view our class timetable in the classroom; this will show you how your child’s day will be structured at school.

Tapestry

Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), each child has a learning journey that documents their learning throughout their time in the EYFS. This year, we are moving from paper based learning journeys to an online system called Tapestry that you will be able to access at home.

We will use Tapestry to record observations, photos and videos to document their progress across the Early Years Foundation Stage. You will be able to access your child’s Learning Journey from a computer via  https://tapestryjournal.com  or by using the ‘Tapestry’ App on mobile devices.

Focus Children

Once every long term, your child will be a focus child for the week. During this time, we will be observing them closely while they play to find out about their particular interests and how they are progressing. Prior to their focus week, we will send a sheet home for parents/carers to fill in. This provides us with the valuable knowledge and understanding that you have of your child. This helps us to plan for your child’s future learning and development. We also ask that you send in any recent photographs of your child enjoying activities outside of school, whether this is at home or out and about.

Reading
The children are welcome to take home any of the books from the reading corner to share at home with you. We provide the children with an opportunity to change their book at the start of the morning and afternoon session every day. These can be changed as often as you would like - you can keep the same book for one week or get a different book every day.
It would be really beneficial if you could find a quiet time to share the book without any distractions. We also encourage the children to independently hold the book and turn the pages themselves. You might want to talk about the story with your child, discussing what you can see happening in the pictures or asking questions about the book. For example:

  • What is happening in this picture?
  • What do you think is going to happen next?
  • Who is your favourite character?

Snack

We provide a range of fruit throughout the week for your child to eat as a snack during the day. If you would like to provide your own snack from home instead, please make sure that it is a healthy snack of fruit, vegetables, breadsticks or something equivalent to this. We ask that you do not provide chocolate for your child to eat.

Water bottles

Please make sure your child has their own named water bottle. This will be kept in class for your child to access throughout the day, then sent home every day to be cleaned.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will be available at the nursery gate during drop off and pick up times or you can email me using the link on our class page. I look forward to teaching your child and working alongside you over this next year.

WOW slips
Don’t forget to fill out a WOW slip when your child has a WOW moment. I love to hear about these and the children love to share them with their friends!

Reading
The children are welcome to take home any of the books from the reading corner to share at home with you. You can change these books at the beginning of every session, as many times as you wish a week.

If you feel that you would like help on supporting your child with their learning, please come and see me and I would be more than happy to help you.
