Mrs Paine, Mrs Gore and Mrs Hughes are so excited to welcome back the children and become the new Maple class!
Please have a look at our timetable to see how the children’s day is structured.
Our topic this term is ‘Stone Age to the Iron Age’. We will be learning about how different things were back then and researching special places like Stone Henge and Skara Brae. We will look at how land was used as settlements in this time too.
In Literacy we will learning to write a narrative based on a picture book called ‘Float’. We will be using onomatopoeia, alliteration, adverbials and all the other techniques we’ve learned to create an exciting story! We will also cover poetry and instructions.
In Maths we will be focusing on place value. We will look at 3 and 4-digit numbers, be able to place them on number lines, round them up at down to the nearest 10 or 100 and finding 10,100 or 1,000 more or less. We will then move on to addition and subtraction of 3 and 4 digit numbers. Children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12 from memory IN Year4. They will be given the chance to practise their times tables daily, and we encourage you to use Times Table Rockstars at home, chanting them in the car or randomly testing them, any practice is worthwhile! This is will help them to help them get ready for the times table assessment in the summer.
Science is all about Animals including Humans! We’ll build on knowledge and skills they have amassed in previous year and learn new facts all about teeth and the digestive system. We will then move on to learning more about the habitats animals live in and how they’re adapted to survive there.
PE will be twice a week on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember to bring in clean PE kit each week.
RE, Art/DT and ICT will take place once a week, with Music and PSHE being fortnightly. The children will also be having History/Geography lessons through their topic.
There will be daily spelling and guided reading sessions. Remember to read with your child once a day and record this in their reading record so that they can change their book.
Homework will have a different focus each week. Included in the homework are the weekly spellings and maths tasks. This will go out on a Friday and be handed in on the following Wednesday
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask us.
