Year 4 – Maple
Welcome to Year Four - Maple Class
I am Mr Osmond and I am the Year 4 teacher. Mrs Dunne helps in our class too. We are all very excited for all the learning we are going to be doing this year!
This term our topic is Robots. We will be learning lots about robots and the way they are used in our everyday life. In History, we will look at how robots have progressed and where they are going in the future. In Science, we will be learning about electricity and sound, then applying this to our knowledge of robotics. In Computing, we will be learning how to program a robot. In Literacy, we will be studying the book “The Iron Man”, looking at creating fantastic description in our writing by using more complex literary techniques.
Year 4 is a key year where many children start to really mature and learn new skills that help them for life. Year 4 is when many children progress to becoming a free reader and by the end of the year they are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12 from memory. I would greatly appreciate any help at home in assisting your child with this, whether this is just chanting them in the car or randomly testing them, any practice is worthwhile! Listening to your child read their reading book most days of the week is also very helpful, even though they may be approaching a stage where they are reluctant, a few minutes every day can help progress them into the excellent readers they can be. This may also be simply asking them questions about what they have read and engaging them in a conversation about what they are reading.
Homework will be set on a Tuesday and needs to be returned before the following Tuesday.
Please can you ensure your child has a full named PE kit in school every day. We will be doing PE lessons on a Monday morning and on a Thursday afternoon with Mr Nobes; however, this may change from time to time so it is important that your child has their PE kit in school all the time.
