Year 4 – Maple
Welcome to Year Four - Maple Class
I am Miss Martin and I am the Year 4 teacher. Mrs Gore, Mrs Robers and Miss Purcell help in our class too. We are all very excited for all the learning we are going to be doing this year!
We will be covering 3 topics this year starting off with a history based visit to the Stone Age (Autumn), followed by an electricity themed Robots topic (Spring), and finally ending with a topic on Water for the final Summer term.
Year 4 is a key year where many children start to really mature and learn new skills that help them for life. Year 4 is when many children progress to becoming a free reader and by the end of the year they are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12 from memory. I would greatly appreciate any help at home in assisting your child with this, whether this is just chanting them in the car or randomly testing them, any practice is worthwhile! Listening to your child read their reading book most days of the week is also very helpful, even though they may be approaching a stage where they are reluctant, a few minutes every day can help progress them into the excellent readers they can be. This may also be simply asking them questions about what they have read and engaging them in a conversation about what they are reading.
Homework is set on a Friday and due back in the following Wednesday. Please can you help your children with any spellings they may be sent home with.
Please can you ensure your child has a full named PE kit in school every day. We will be doing PE lessons on a Tuesday afternoon and on a Wednesday Morning with Mr Hosier; however, this may change from time to time so it is important that your child has their PE kit in school all the time.
