Fir Tree School

AS Unit

The Fir Tree Autistic Spectrum (AS) Unit is home to West Berkshire’s newest resource.

The resource caters for children from across West Berkshire who have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) with Autism as their primary need. Admission is through the SEN Assessment Team and the SEN Panel.

The Unit is a state of the art space with two classrooms, a therapy room, a calm room, a sensory room, shower and toilet, a kitchen/ common room, an outdoor area and an office.

Within the unit there is a dedicated team of staff consisting of a Teacher in Charge and Teaching Assistants. As the unit fills up to its maximum capacity of twelve, the staff team will grow.

The children are supported by the staff to access the curriculum within mainstream lessons. Supporting interventions and therapies are provided within the unit such as Social Skills, Life Skills, Lego Therapy and Mindfulness.

If you would like to find out more about the AS Unit, please contact Mrs Michelle Pearse, Head of AS Unit, on mpearse@firtree.newburyacademytrust.org.
